You’ve heard the saying “out of sight, out of mind”? That saying certainly applies to water heaters. Most water heaters are tucked away in a closet, or storage area of our basement where we rarely go.
We don’t think much about our water heaters until suddenly there’s no hot water, or there’s a puddle underneath the water heater.
The plumbers at Emerson Plumbing are experts when it comes to water heater repair and replacement. If a water heater is less than 10 years old, there are many things we can repair, such as valves, expansion tanks and other parts.
If your water heater has a puddle beneath it, that generally means it has corroded from the inside and needs to be replaced. If its more than ten years old, we will likely recommend replacing it, as most water heaters don’t get beyond 12 years, and some fail as early as 8 years. In addition, today’s water heaters are much more energy efficient, whether it’s an electric water heater or gas water heater.
If you do get a new water heater, we will make sure to replace your existing hot water heater with a new one that is sized appropriately for your home and your family. If it seems like there’s never enough hot water, your existing water heater is probably too small.
A tip before you call the plumber – if your water is too hot, or not hot enough, check the temperature dial first. Is it set too low? Is it set too high? Try adjusting it and see if that helps. Be careful not to set the temperature too high (most dials show a danger zone) because you could cause the water to be scalding.
